Summary
The Charter School Policy Institute (CSPI) seeks a remarkable individual for a part-time internship. The intern is responsible for interacting directly with staff and policymakers. This position reports directly to the President and CEO.


CSPI is a 501c3 non-profit organization based in Austin, TX. CSPI’s advocacy, public relations, and research work is aimed to inform the development of the best charter school policies in Texas and beyond. CSPI seeks individuals of all ethnic and racial backgrounds to apply for the position.

Responsibilities

The intern is responsible for assisting all staff members through a wide scope of tasks including:

 

  • Providing research assistance, such as monitoring and analyzing legislation and identifying and summarizing existing research on current policy issues;
  • Database management, including information about Texas public charter schools and charter school legislation across the country, as well as constituent contacts and other research information;
  • Updating an online research library of charter school studies in Texas;
  • Assisting with event planning;
  • Monitoring and posting national news coverage for the “Media Watch” website tool;
  • Helping promote CSPI’s website to policymakers, the media, and the general public via multiple communication formats;
  • Preparing reports for requested data, letters, memos, and other publications; and
  • Providing support to Institute staff through general administrative tasks.   

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, a variety of computer skills, the ability to work independently, and excellent written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of HTML, web development and graphics or publishing software is preferred. We are especially interested in candidates who are either graduate or undergraduate students and able to assume responsibilities immediately. Familiarity with the state legislative process and education reform is helpful but not required. Applicants must be dedicated to creating a professional operating environment which supports the mission, goals, and values of this organization.  They must also be dedicated to supporting the success of the organization through active participation as a member of the team.

Compensation
Class credit available upon request.
